Silat is a combative art of self-defence from the Malay world. It employs langkah (‘steps’) and jurus (‘movements’) to ward off or strike assailants, either with or without weapons. The movements are inspired by flora and fauna. Bunga (the art of Silat) is a combination of defending and attacking Silat movements which consists of seven langkah (steps), seven kuda-kuda (stances) and seven limbai (hand positions). The Silat stance is usually low to give more stability. The practice suits all ages and students take around three months to understand the basics.
